Base Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of works by a France based Japanese artist Toru Hamada on view from May 8 through June 13, 2015.

Hamada has been making paintings of unflaggingly changing pictures by using fresh and vivid colors.

In each picture, he drastically transforms figures and shapes of things and creates even the profound depth by assigning weight to the colors.

Since Hamada has originally made marble stone sculptures primarily,
it might be quite natural that even his tableaus make us feel some weight that essentially comes with sculptures or objects.
In addition, they straightforwardly convey the impulse he would physically feel when producing sculptures and objects.

In early 2015, his massive marble sculpture was installed at the main entrance of Ehime University in Matsuyama where he is originally from.
It will be praised and admired as the major symbol of the university from now on.

We cordially invite you to join us for his 11th solo exhibition at Base Gallery.
